Melissa currently works for John Wiley & Sons in the Global Rights
and Digital Content Distribution Department. She handles electronic
licensing of titles in the Professional and Trade Division. She
moved to New York City after graduating from University of California
at Santa Barbara with a degree in English to pursue a career in
publishing. After hearing Anne Garrels report of the condition of the
National Library of Afghanistan, she approached the upper manage-
ment at Wiley for the possible donation of books. They willingly
agreed and in turn this sparked the hope that it might be possible
to make a difference for the Library. With the help of her father,
she started Books for Freedom to achieve this goal.
